Maxine’s Social was named after Maxine, a lifelong musician and entertainer whose career began at just 13 years old and spanned more than seven decades. A pianist, vibraphonist and vocalist, she performed throughout the United States and abroad, from Honolulu and Las Vegas to Germany and Japan, appeared on The Tonight Show, and later in her career became a well-known fixture of the Stateline music scene.

That connection made the name especially fitting when her grandson Zac and his wife Lauren brought new life to a place with a rich musical history of its own.

Long before it became Maxine’s Social, generations around Beloit knew the building as the Club Pop House and later the Alumni House. Its stage has seen countless local and touring musicians over the years. From Bobby Vinton and Dell Shannon, to Steve Miller and Green Day, the building has been a part of Beloit’s nightlife and music scene for decades.

Today it’s Maxine’s Social, a neighborhood bar and live music venue, with our historic dance hall also available for private events.

Named after a woman who spent most of her life on a stage or entertaining a room full of people, we think she’d get a kick out of seeing her name above the door.
